3 Quick Style Tips Every Guy Needs to Know

3 Quick Style Tips Every Guy Needs to Know
The short version

These simple tips most guys can fix immediately or things to keep in mind for your next suit include matching your leathers, watching your widths, and properly buttoning your suit jacket.

I do my best to not judge guys on their appearance, we all have to start somewhere and I know many find fashion so daunting. If you read our blogs, watch our YouTube videos or see any of our social media content I hope you get that feeling. The goal is to teach and never judge, I am sure there are times we miss that mark but we are doing our best. With that said, here are three key tips all guys need to know.

Match Your Leathers

That is commonly the shoes and belt, but can include the watch as well. Your belt should never draw attention but your shoes should pop off your look, but not too much. The goal is to draw the eyes to your face which is why patterns and bolder colours should always be worn above the belt.

Match Your Widths

Modern suit jackets have slim lapels, but most guys have hand me down ties from their Dad or Grandfather. That modern vs. traditional combo does not work. The goal is to have the blade (the widest part of the tie) match the widest part of your jacket lapel. We find 3” work great on most Gentleman, but if you have broad shoulders, or a wide chest, we suggest going wider than that. No more than 4” however.

Jacket Suit Button

Never, ever button the bottom button of your suit. This rule goes back to the late 1800’s and King Edward VII who was overweight so he kept the bottom button undone. Now suits are made with the jacket meant to drape from the top button out. If you button the bottom button it will cause the suit to pull in unnaturally. There is no exception to this rule.

Conclusion

Three simple style rules that will cost you nothing, or very little to implement. They will change your style overnight and give you a great base line to start from. If you check through our style blog or our YouTube videos you will find many simple rule to follow as well.
